Unshoveled Sidewalks:

Without prior notice the city of Racine will enforce un-shoveled sidewalk violations in accordance with city ord. 82-109.

Attention

All work done by the city, where violations have been observed, will be accomplished without prior notice.

Sidewalks

If you own property in the City and there’s a sidewalk in front of your home — or along the side if you’re on a corner — you are responsible for clearing all snow and ice. You must clear the full width of the sidewalk within 24 hours after snow or ice has fallen or built up.

Use of Sand, etc

If the snow or ice is frozen so hard that it cannot be safely removed without damaging the sidewalk, the property owner must spread sand or another safe material to prevent slipping. This must be done within the same 24-hour timeframe. As soon as the weather allows, the sidewalk must then be fully cleared.
