A tree permit is required for any activities that impact trees located on the city right-of-way or city-owned/controlled public property. Permits must be acquired before starting work.

Permits may be:

• Approved as requested
• Approved with modifications
• Denied

A Standard Tree Permit Application is required for work on public trees in Racine, including:

• Planting
• Pruning
• Removal

This ensures all work follows city ordinancesChapter 102 (also called the “Tree Ordinance”) of the City of Racine’s Code of Ordinances provides primary guidance for the care and management of trees in the city. Generally speaking, this chapter establishes the city’s authority for maintaining public trees, defines the duties and responsibilities of the City Forester, requires a tree permit for any action or activity that impacts public trees, and provides guidance for how the permit is issued and restrictions permit-holders may face. The Tree Ordinance establishes that the City Forester is designated with the authority and responsibility to ensure enforcement and compliance with Chapter 102. • Permit validity: 90 days
• Cost responsibility: Permit holder
