Weights & Measures

Program Background

The City of Racine Public Health Department acts as an agent for the Weights and Measures Program of the State of Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade, and Consumer Protection (DATCP). While State-employed inspectors conduct all program inspections, the City of Racine handles billing for the program.

The Weights and Measures Program protects consumers by monitoring the accuracy of gas station pumps, grocery store scales and packages (those sold by weight), checkout scanners, and timers (such as those found in laundromats, taxis, etc.).

For Business Owners

If your establishment is inspected through the Weights and Measures Program, the invoice is issued by and paid directly to the Department of Customer Service. Call 262-636-9171 if there are questions about the invoice.

The total amount of your invoice depends directly on the number of pumps, scales, scanners, and/or timers in use at your business. See the Fee Schedule for complete fee information.

Complaints

If you experience an issue with any equipment inspected through the Weights and Measures program, such as gas pumps not dispensing the proper amount, grocery store scales weighing inaccurately, retail checkout scanners not scanning correctly, or other related issues, contact the WI Department of Agriculture, Trade, and Consumer Protection through their Online Complaint Form.

You can find more information about Weights and Measures on the DATCP website. DATCP may also be contacted via:
